Arguably the most authentic Australian outback experience, The Great Australian Outback Cattle Drive is taking place again in May and June 2007. Combine five hundred head of cattle, over 240 miles of desert track and a swag of adventure stories along one of the most evocative desert trails in Australia and you have a vacation you will never forget!

2007 will not only see the third Cattle Drive, it will see the drovers take the concept into new and exciting territory. For five weeks, from May 5 to June 10, they will drive the herd south-east along the Oodnadatta Track.

The Oodnadatta Track, which passes through a mixture of plains and undulating countryside, has been segmented into seven, four-night/five-day tours, each with its own distinct highlights - Dawn of the Cattle Drive; Rail & Ruins; Sounds of the Outback; Cattle Kings; Dunes, Springs and Salt Pans; Lake Eyre Encounter and Cattle Drive Round Up. Visitors can choose to stay as long as they
like, purchasing any number of individual tours, all of which are priced the same.

Each day the drive will cover approximately 9 miles, and will combine the adventure of droving with outback luxury, campfire cooking included. Guests will come to know (and hopefully love!) their horses, each chosen to match their riding abilities. First-timers will have the rare opportunity of learning from people who have literally lived in the saddle, while experienced riders will enjoy exchanging stories and insights with some of Australia's greatest horsemen and women.

Accommodation is in large, comfortable tents with superior facilities. The tents are set up to form a tent village and remain in the same setting throughout the tour. The tents, twin share, have been designed with a roll down canvas divider between the camp beds for those wanting more privacy.

Overall, tour price includes, all necessary droving equipment, use of a horse, saddle, very comfortable erected tented accommodation and all meals, including campfire cooking. The staff to guest ratio will be 1:2.

The Cattle Drive can also be combined with other optional Outback tours and excursions; participants can book a one day Coward Springs camel tour and a variety of scenic flights. 2007 also sees the inclusion of Coober Pedy in the itinerary which will allow visitors a greater choice of access, whether it be by air, rail (The Ghan) or road.

South Australia ... a brilliant blend
Earlier this year we saw the launch of a new brand for South Australia. The brand embraces all the state has to offer from its wine reputation, and excellent food to its unique wildlife and ancient outback. The new brand will replace Discover the Secrets of South Australia and grapes
logo in all marketing campaigns and collateral.

Australian Tourism Exchange 2006

With the 2006 Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) fast approaching, the city of Adelaide is gearing up to welcome you!

ATE06 will be held from 17 - 23 June at the Adelaide Convention Center. The event is operated by Tourism Australia and co-hosted by the relevant state tourism organization. ATE is the largest international travel trade show in the southern hemisphere with over 1700 Australian delegates from over 630 companies meeting with 600 key overseas buyers from 40 countries. Whilst delegates are in South Australia they have the opportunity to participate in familiarizations which will be held pre and post the event. There are over 70 itineraries offering a variety of experiences and visiting many different regions of the state. Here are just few examples of the many offered.

and experience a performance at the
Tandanya National Cultural Institute. Relax and stay overnight at Glenelg, where you'll find a marina, great restaurants and sandy beaches. Then explore the Adelaide Hills where you will experience wildlife, picturesque towns and fabulous wineries.

Discover authentic outback farming life at Rawnsley Park Station and sample 'feral' food at Parachilna's Prairie Hotel. Immerse yourself in the colorful life of Coober Pedy where more than 90% of the world's opals are mined and half the town's residents live underground.

Focus on Flinders Ranges
& Outback Accommodation

Wilpena Pound Resort
Wilpena Pound Resort is the ideal base to explore and discover the best of the Flinders Ranges. The resort nestles unobtrusively against a backdrop of rugged mountains, right at the entrance to Wilpena Pound. The Resort offers a variety of units to cater to most budgets with 34 motel style units, called Aroona and Brachina, 16 deluxe cluster units, called Heysen, and ten fully self contained deluxe cluster units with kitchenettes, called Edeowie. 4WD tours, scenic flights, horse riding and guided walks can be arranged by the staff at the resort.

Rawnsley Park Station
Rawnsley Park Station, located in the Flinders Ranges, has just opened four luxury eco-villas which are located on a secluded, elevated site offering uninterrupted views of Wilpena Pound and the surrounding ranges. Designed to complement the natural surroundings, and featuring stylish, contemporary interiors, the one and two bedroom villas boast retractable fabric ceilings and roof skylights, enabling guests to watch the night-time stars from the comfort of their bed. The villas feature environmentally responsible design features such as rendered straw bale walls, recycled timber, double-glazed windows and water sourced from a re-charged/sustainable groundwater aquifer.

Angorichina Station
Angorichina is a sheep station situated east of Blinman in South Australia's outback. The beautifully appointed homestead, with its thick, stone walls, antique furnishings and mouthwatering cooking aromas, really is an oasis in the middle of the outback. There are two guest rooms one located under the homestead's front verandah with the other being a separate garden cottage. Whilst staying on the station, enjoy a 4WD tour, scenic flight or guided walk of the ancient Flinders Ranges where you can learn from Aboriginal guides about their cultural link with the land and the identification of local foods and medicinal plants.

North Star Inn
The Prairie Hotel at Parachilna, Australia's most awarded outback hotel has adopted a southern sister - the North Star Inn at Melrose, at the foot of Mt. Remarkable in South Australia's glorious Southern Flinders Ranges. The North Star is actually the oldest licensed hotel in the Flinders Ranges, and has had a makeover to create four boutique hotel rooms and a deck for outdoor dining and entertainment. Hotel rooms have balcony or mountain views, private ensuites and a guest kitchenette. Downstairs, guests can relax in a private lounge or enjoy a special dinner, meeting or private party. They have all been recently renovated and styled with a touch of modern glamour. The hotel is also now the cellar door for Bundaleer Wines, one of a growing number of wine producers in the Southern Flinders Ranges area.

The Prairie Hotel
The Prairie Hotel with its unique accommodation, excellent food and relaxed atmosphere is a must-see
whilst visiting the Flinders Ranges. Situated in the town
of Parachilna (population: 7!), the hotel offers various types of accommodation from luxury spa suites to affordable backpacker. A highlight is the authentic

Vacation.com
South Australia Famil

Fourteen Vacation.com retail travel agents participated in a 5-night Familiarization trip organized by the South Australia Tourism Commission and Air New Zealand in May. The visit to South Australia was to educate the agents on the non-stop flights offered by Air New Zealand, from Auckland to Adelaide, and to sample the highlights of South Australia. The group toured city and the Adelaide Hills region, sampled the great food and wine of the Barossa Valley and experienced first hand the nature and beauty of Kangaroo Island.

Terri Miller, Sales Development Representative for Air New Zealand, joined Asher Senyk from the SATC office in hosting the group.

While many of the agents were impressed by the abundant wildlife of Kangaroo Island (even at night during the penguin tour) others enjoyed the outstanding restaurants and cafes during their visit, and came away with an appreciation of why SA offers a brilliant blend.
